Texas' oldest woman celebrates her 114th birthday
ABC - There are now more than 90,000 people in the U.S. alone who can be called centenarians. However, there's an even more jaw-dropping category -- people who are 110 and older. They're called "super centenarians," and one super Houston woman just made history. Elizabeth Francis turned an astounding 114 years old this week, making history. As friends and five generations of her family celebrated her remarkable milestone, a film crew from Norway and a researcher from Florida came to record her birthday, and present her with a plaque. Alarming reality: One in four Americans with cognitive impairment lives alone

Wildfire smoke linked to increased risk of dementia, study says
WAPO - As some of the worst wildfires in modern history ravage parts of Canada and the United States this summer, scientists are eager to understand the effects of wildfire smoke on human health. Now, an alarming study has found that people living in areas with persistent exposure to wildfire smoke may have higher risks of developing dementia later in life.

Music can serve as therapy. Here’s how it can help reduce anxiety.
WAPO - As a music therapist working in a hospital, the author uses music to help reduce anxiety in patients. A review of 19 randomized controlled trials showed “an overall decrease in self-reported anxiety” among healthy individuals after listening to music, and a study she participated in found that a music therapy session resulted in positive outcomes for some patients.

McKnight’s - Learning a new skill or taking up a new language could lower the risk for cognitive decline and dementia, according to a study out Aug. 23 in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience.
