Senators call for federal investigation of assisted living
McKnightโs - Three senators have asked the Government Accountability Office to investigate whether additional federal oversight of assisted living is needed as part of an update theyโve requested to the GAOโs 2018 report on state and federal oversight of assisted living.
โGiven the threats to residentsโ health and safety revealed by GAOโs 2018 report, a new review is necessary to evaluate the extent to which the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and state Medicaid agencies have improved their capacity to protect the hundreds of thousands of seniors and individuals with disabilities who reside in these facilities,โ Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), the ranking member of the Senate Special Committee on Aging; Ron Wyden (D-OR), the ranking members of the Senate Finance Committee; and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), a member of the Aging Committee, wrote in a letter dated yesterday to GAO Comptroller General Eugene L. Dodaro.
