How Trumpโs immigration plans could affect care for your elderly parents
CNN - Terry Hodge would have a tough time caring for the 150 or so elderly women at Bethany Health Care Center without the dozens of immigrant nursing assistants, housekeepers, dietary aides and other staffers at the Framingham, Massachusetts, facility.
More than 40% of her employees were born abroad, hailing from 26 countries, including Haiti, Guatemala, El Salvador and Ghana, said Hodge, the centerโs administrator. Among the certified nursing assistants, the figure is 84%.

The Decline in Geriatric Care Hurts Us All
NYT - Between 2010 and 2020, the number of Americans over the age of 65 grew faster than it has in more than 100 years. The American population is older than itโs ever been, with more than 55 million people over 65.
But those fortunate enough to live well into โlate adulthoodโ also face an unfortunate reality: There are not enough doctors to give them the care they need. There is about one geriatrician for every 10,000 older Americans. And itโs getting worse. The number of board-certified geriatricians has fallen from about 10,000 in 2000 to barely 7,400 in 2022.

Loneliness linked to dementia risk in large-scale analysis
NIH - Feeling lonely increases the risk for dementia by 31%, according to an analysis of data from multiple NIA-funded population-based studies. These findings were focused explicitly on loneliness and looked at its links to Alzheimerโs disease, vascular dementia, and cognitive impairment without dementia. The research was funded by NIA and published in Nature Mental Health.
