NPR - The number of people hitting the traditional retirement age is surging in the U.S. Every day across the country about 11,000 people turn 65. As many look forward to a new phase of life after retiring from their day jobs, there’s a need to reimagine places and spaces for people to thrive. That’s what Wallis Annenberg is aiming to do. The 84-year-old CEO and president of the Annenberg Foundation wants to change the conversation on aging, and she envisioned a space where older people would gather to grow and learn.
Larger nursing home chains linked to lower staffing
McKnight’s - A new study that examined more than 9,000 US nursing homes across 610 chains found that larger chains had more prevalent staffing challenges, including staff instability and fewer hours of direct care provided to patients. (Yes, these are the same places giddy that the staffing mandates will go away.)

MarketWatch - The stereotype of retirement as a time to play golf, travel and relax is a relatively new concept in American history. But by now, even that idea is outdated as more older adults work longer and grapple with the need for purpose in their older years. Also, with people living longer and healthier, there may be several chapters in their lives to pursue different jobs, vocations and hobbies.

Australia police officer who Tasered 95-year-old woman Clare Nowland in care home found guilty of manslaughter
CBS News - A police officer who shocked a 95-year-old nursing home resident with a Taser was found guilty of manslaughter in an Australian court Wednesday. A jury found Kristian James Samuel White guilty in the trial in Sydney after 20 hours of deliberation. White, who is on bail, could get up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced later. (YIKES!)
