Sage Stream, the live-stream, interactive, senior entertainment network conducted a pilot launch with 20 communities over 16 weeks from February 14 through May 30. Once a week for 16 weeks, we conducted programs on either Tuesday’s or Wednesday’s, primarily in the mid-afternoon time slot to reach east coast viewers after lunch, west coast viewers prior and European viewers after supper. We also broadcasted to the private Facebook page of the National Association of Activity Professionals, a Sage Stream endorser.
Using an embedded video player on the Vimeo platform, viewers simply went to the unlisted url to view on a smart TV, tablet or through a computer connected to a TV. A chat function allowed for communication from viewers to the show’s host and artists.
The two key components of the Sage Stream broadcast were that they were live, in-the-moment, not on-demand and the ability for interaction with viewers.
Interaction Works
Michelle Allgood, Owner of Gracious Living Adult Day Center had this to say:
”In addition to recognizing birthdays and the like, the artists gave shout outs to viewers. It could be simple things like recognizing an activity in which the clients just participated. Brightens their day. When a person is mentioned by name, wished a happy birthday, or has their song request played, it has a profound impact.”
“Social isolation is of epidemic proportions in the U.S. as recently called attention to by Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy who released an Advisory calling attention to the public health crisis of loneliness. Studies have shown that in some respects isolation has worsened post-pandemic,” noted Sage Stream founder Anthony Cirillo. Adding: “The engagement component in many ways creates a social group experience.”
Great Artists and Programming Key
“They are enjoying the programming! It has become a very good resource while they relax in the smaller rooms. Thanks so much for sharing with us.”

Wartburg Retirement Communities / Sage Stream Partner
Wartburg, a comprehensive senior residential and healthcare service provider, participated in the pilot and will be utilizing Sage Stream in all of their settings.
Says Wartburg President and CEO, David J. Gentner:
“We piloted Sage Stream earlier in the year and our staff reported back that it was an affordable and valuable resource that residents looked forward to each week. In a tech and gadget-filled world, staff like the simplicity and ease of use of Sage Stream, which saves them hours of activity planning time. I personally like the idea of song requests as it harkens back to a time when you could actually call a radio station and make requests!”
Endorsed by NAAP and Music for Dementia
Sage Stream is endorsed by the National Association of Activity Professionals in the U.S. and Music for Dementia in the U.K. With additional mentors from the Lieber Institute for Brain Development and the Institute for Music and Neurological Function, Sage Stream produces programs to maximize brain health.
Alisa Tagg, Association Director, National Association of Activity Professionals says:
“Sage Stream has provided NAAP with live stream performances over the last year. Not to use the word amazing lightly, the shows featured a diverse lineup of talent, varied topics beyond and including music, and international artists.
All of the formal evaluations and anecdotal comments back to NAAP indicated that behaviors were positively impacted, and activity professionals were thankful for the great entertainment. I really appreciate Anthony and his content providers’ heart and desire to provide such quality programming. I encourage communities to consider Sage Stream as a complementary and essential part of their activity programs.”
